A Jeep safari to the World’s highest organic tea plantation “Kolukkumalai” (Theni, TamilNadu, India)

My family and I visited Kolukkumalai in August 2017.

Kolukkumalai is a small village in Bodinayakanur Taluk in the Theni District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is home to the highest tea plantations in the world with the tea grown here possessing a special flavour and freshness because of the high altitude .Kolukkumalai is about 7,130 feet (2,170 m) above sea level and lies some 32 kilometres (20 mi) from Munnar. We were staying in “Sterling Munnar Terrace Green resort”. We started our journey from the resort (lot of jeeps available in front of this resort) in a Jeep.. Kudos to Mahindra.. Yet again another route which proves the power and performance of a Mahindra Jeep. It is about one and a half hour journey . The hill top village is accessible only by such jeeps due to rugged and rain drenched roads covering up to 17 km. Its really a jumpy Bumpy ride which you will enjoy. Overall you might need 6-7 hours for the entire trip. The jeeps can carry 6-7 People at a time.

The tea estate views are quite refreshing.

On top of the hill, you can visit the Oldest tea factory established in 1930 by a Scottish planter.One can easily understand the various different processes that are used to create exotic varieties of Munnar tea at the factory.
